Addressing the "Virus" in the Client

Recommended Posts

So, lately I've been seeing a few concerns arising from players about there being a trojan virus in our client. I've heard this before, but I've never really paid much mind to it until we recently started gaining a bunch of new players. Now let me come right out and say this - there is absolutely no virus in our client.

Now, I want to explain this "virus" flagging a bit better to help clear things up for you guys..

Basically, in 718 clients there can be a 'false-positive' virus that arises from method50123 in the client files, now this doesn't happen to everyone - personally, I've never had the issue. It seems to be coming only from a few anti-virus programs such as AVG and VirusTotal. As to why it gets read as a virus? I haven't got the slightest clue. But simply put, we currently have no way to push out client changes to all of you at once, therefore we couldn't simply change this. But keep in mind, this is now changed in the beta client.

If you'd like a bit more information about this 'false-positive', I've linked a few threads here about it.

As you can see, the general consensus is that this is not a virus. And the entire MBScape community can back me up on this.

We've even had an administrator at Rune-Locus confirm this.

What can I do if I'm having this problem?

There are two things that I'd currently suggest if you're having an issue with the client being read as a virus.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience that this may have caused any of you.
